When Gabriel Jesus initially played for Arsenal in a preseason friendly at Nurnberg in 2022, supporters thought they had found a striker who could change their team’s destiny. Jesus would ultimately help put an end to that torment after years of purgatorial efforts that failed to bring Champions League play back to the table.
But he would do more than that, and the goals and assists he provided would enable the Gunners to launch an unexpected title campaign, which they still want to improve upon this season. So why are there rumors, according to The Athletic, that Arsenal is considering selling the Brazilian just two years after Jesus arrived?
The solution is multifaceted yet significantly depends on.
Even though he would only contribute a direct assist in one game—the 5-0 victory against Nottingham Forest—and not score in the next six league games, his performances kept garnering attention. One such match was the 1-0 victory over Chelsea, who were not yet regarded as the mess they are today. However, the winter World Cup would take both Jesus and the best forward we may ever see away.
Due to a knee injury, Jesus would be out of commission for almost three months. Upon his comeback, Leandro Trossard, a new celebrity, had made headlines. Jesus made his comeback against Fulham, when the Belgian recorded three assists en route to a 3-0 victory.
But Mikel Arteta quit Trossard because he was eager to reintegrate, even though it would be extremely expensive. The Gunners lost all four of the games that Jesus started for them: the ones against Liverpool (A), West Ham (A), Southampton (H), and Manchester City (A). Trossard only appeared as a substitute in these games.
