The ‘Re-Starting 11’ is an inspirational squad made up of Fabrice Muamba, Tom Lockyer, and former Tottenham player and manager Glenn Hoddle. Their mission is to save lives from heart-related ailments.

The team, which was unveiled at Wembley Stadium, is made up of athletes and spectators who have either suffered cardiac arrests or were instrumental in saving lives. They are all dedicated to raising awareness of the critical need of knowing how to perform CPR.

The ‘Re-Starting 11’ is led by football legends Graeme Souness and Hoddle and include players like Charlie Wyke of Wigan Athletic and Megan Tinsley of Derby County.

The team is spearheading the new ‘Every Minute Matters’ campaign from Sky Bet and the British Heart Foundation, which aims to teach vital lifesaving CPR to an astounding 270,000 people—enough to fill three Wembley Stadiums—over the course of the “CPR saves lives-and you only have to look at our Re-Starting 11 to see that,” Souness said in reference to his involvement. The Daily Star says that Souness battled coronary heart disease himself in his 30s and supported the charitable cause.

Souness went on to say: “It’s a privilege to join a team of inspiring people, many who are only here today thanks to CPR, as we stand with Sky Bet and the British Heart Foundation to call on the nation to take action.”

“We need more people to learn CPR through RevivR because more than 80 people in the UK will experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest every day,” he said, highlighting the seriousness of the problem.

“Together we can equip thousands more fans with the knowledge and confidence to perform these lifesaving skills, because in the crucial moments following a cardiac arrest every minute really does matter.”

The statistics are startling: in the UK, there are over 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests every year, or at least five every 90 minutes. For every minute that goes by without CPR, the survival rate can decrease by up to 10%.

Sadly, less than 10% of victims make it out alive, frequently as a result of witnesses lacking the knowledge or self-assurance necessary to do CPR. The 9.
